What to do at the airport when your flight is delayed or cancelled

The strongest evidence is often collected while you are still at the airport.

Solve the travel problem first

If the flight is cancelled or seriously delayed, first deal with the practical issue: rerouting, hotel, meals, transport, and communication.

Ask the airline what it can provide and request confirmation in writing or through the airline app.

Record the reason for disruption

Ask for the official reason for the delay or cancellation. If the explanation is verbal, write it down immediately with the time and place.

If the airline gives inconsistent explanations, keep every message. Differences can matter later.

Photograph notices and keep receipts

Take photos of the departure board, gate notice, and airline app messages. Keep receipts for meals, drinks, hotel, or transport if you paid yourself.

Not every receipt will necessarily be reimbursed, but reimbursement becomes harder without records.

Be careful with unclear waivers

If the airline offers a voucher or form, check whether you are giving up additional rights. If the language is unclear, take a photo before signing.

After the trip, submit the basic flight details for a structured eligibility review.
